We can move forward!

It is so important to keep an open mind when going through any type of exercise program or recovery journey. Being willing to adjust and try different things can be a game changer.

I was struggling so much in my calf and concussion rehab. The calf pain wouldn't allow me to walk regularly or perform a calf raise without significant pain and concussion nausea was so bad I had to stop using headphones to listen music when working out.

I am no expert but I have been in the field of PT for just over 20 years so I naturally start problem solving and try to figure out the causes and what I can do to accomplish goals within the confines of what my body allows. ts a little different when it's yourself, so I am thankful I have some good help for outside perspective.

The Ortho office I go to got me connected to have dry needling to my calf. This alone allowed me to go through full ROM, still painful and very weak. I am unable to tolerate land calf exercises however I am now consistently performing calf raises single and double leg in the pool daily and can walk 30-45min on level surfaces without pain. It still feels weak with SL but not painful.

I was unwilling to give up listening to music and started looking at options. I learned there was a way to listen to music with headphones without worsening concussion symptoms. Bone conduction headphones!! Not only do they work but they are waterproof so can be used in the pool. I don't have to give up something that motivated me and I love-music!!

There are always ways we can continue moving forward in recovery, exercise programs, and life.

Where do you feel stuck in your exercise routine or recovery journey? What is one thing you can do to get closer to your goals?
