Do YOU have a solid routine?

Getting into a solid routine can be very helpful for consistent long term progress with your health and exercise journey. Do you have one?

Setting up a baseline routine can be super helpful. It does not mean that every day will be perfect, but it gives you a good starting point, and from there things can be adjusted and progressed as needed.

Routines may look different week to week or month to month depending on what season of life you are in. Some people have more time, and some less time. But no matter the amount of time, we have the ability to integrate daily disciplines that will help us in improving our health and fitness.

For example, I had shoulder surgery this week and everything about my routine has changed. I can’t drive currently so my normal gym routine was disrupted and had to be adjusted. The exercises I was doing will also change temporarily as my shoulder heals.

My baseline routine for my shoulder recovery, including nutrition that started today looks something like this:

Shoulder Exercises ~ every 2 hours:

  • Ball squeezes
  • Scap squeezes
  • Posterior shoulder rolls
  • Seated ball rollouts (flexion and scaption)
  • Pulleys (flexion and scaption)

Ice and compression x 15 min after each round

Nutrition:

  • Pre-workout
  • Collagen
  • Protein (160g or more)
  • BCAA’s
  • 128 oz of water
  • Creatine
  • Greens packet
  • Vitamin C
  • Hydration packets as needed

Daily walk and/or bike

This is the starting point for my routine and of course it will adjust and advance as I move through the recovery journey. The same is true for you, whether it is building strength, improving cardiovascular health, or like me recovering from a surgery, progress can and will be made with consistency.

Have you considered setting up a baseline routine for your health, fitness, and/or recovery journey? Is there one you can realistically set up today? Remember it doesn’t have to be perfect, just start. Set a goal, create a simple baseline routine, and build on. The baseline routine you set up will advance and you will be able to make adjustments along the way.
