Are you willing to show up for YOURSELF?
In order for there to be consistent long term progress, you have to ask yourself are you willing to commit and show up even when challenges arise? Even when you don’t feel like it?
Let’s be honest, most of us have days we don’t feel like working out for one reason or another. But I have learned in order to build consistency and discipline, you show up regardless. Exhausted? Bad day? Happy? Discouraged? Choose to show up anyways. Your willingness to show up as you are matters. You may have to modify weight or change a few things, if you are exhausted, but you can still do something. By showing up, you are building discipline and training your mind, plus you keep commitments to yourself and goals.
There have been so many times that I walked in the gym feeling like I couldn’t make it through this recovery process. Tears in my eyes pushing through workouts, only to be encouraged by another person, or have an opportunity to encourage someone else. Through consistently showing up as my authentic self there have been connections made that happened only because I chose to show up as I am. I value authenticity and honesty and it turns out a lot of other people do too. Some might say, “You are baby.” For crying through workouts, I challenge you to think differently. If all is well in your mind, heart, and body, how much strength does it take to show up? When you are truly feeling motivated and well, do you think it takes strength to show up? What about days when you are dealing with intense struggle, sadness, hurt, or discouragement? Does that require strength for you to show up?
In my opinion, it takes great strength to show up on days when all you really want to do is go home and sit on the couch. However, choosing to show up (even if you have to cry through a workout) is not weak, it in fact shows your strength. Exercise naturally is a mood booster too, and 9x/10 if you choose to work out despite how you feel, you will leave feeling better and more motivated? Will you choose to commit to yourself today and workout? Will you let the challenges of this life keep you from taking care of yourself?
